We need your support
At least one in three male Victorians will develop cancer by age 75. In 2006, prostate cancer was the leading site of new cancer and was the second ranking cause of cancer death amongst men. These incidence rates are projected to increase in the future.
The overwhelming majority of these deaths will be from prostate cancer that has spread outside of the gland and which no longer responds to conventional treatments. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies targeting molecular mechanisms mediating resistance to conventional agents must be developed to make a significant impact on treatment response and survival.
The formation of a dedicated prostate cancer consortium in Victoria will provide a vital boost to our understanding of the fundamental mechanisms underlying prostate cancer development and contributing to treatment resistance.
